Singles Ski Holidays

Solo travel is a rising trend. According to Hitwise, the UK’s largest online behavioural research tool, there has been a 143% increase in searches for ‘solo travel’ over the last three years. More pertinently to skiing holidays, The Ski Club of Great Britain’s Market Research Report 2017 showed that the number of respondents travelling solo was up 2% on the previous year, meaning just over 7% (17,000 respondents) arrived at the slopes alone.

A number of factors are driving this increase, notably social media platforms awash with people gallivanting off on their own. It has broken the taboo of travelling alone but the perks of skiing are helping too.

This is particularly the case for older single people. The usual inhibitions are dissipating: corralling others to drop everything and escape with you, the cost of going alone, exhaustive itineraries to suit everyone’s ability. These are replaced with the thrill of meeting like-minded people, the chance to experience new adventures at a suitable pace, and the opportunity to do and pay for exactly what you want to do.

Going alone on the slopes provides a sense of freedom. Get up when you want to, ski the slopes you want to try, eat, drink, socialise when it suits you; even if it’s on your own. You can do this without worrying about anyone else. The slopes are a great place to forget everything else and focus on you.

But because skiing is like being part of a community, there are always others to meet. There’s every chance you will rekindle relationships made on the slopes every year.

Single Parent Ski Holidays

Single parents can also benefit from the growth in solo travel. Many resorts now cater for single parents, which is vitally important from a cost perspective and for convenience.

It is possible to find accommodation that allows a single parent to take the child/children and not have to pay the usual room price for two adults.

And with ski schools at most resorts now, you don’t have to worry about teaching youngsters the ropes. Many of the resorts also have facilities designed specially for children, including parks and entertainment.

It is refreshing to see so many resorts moving with these exciting times to ensure even more people find their way to the slopes each year. It is skiing-deals.co.uk’s job to get you there, whether on your own or as a single parent.
